Bimnation
A BIM coordination platform I built to replace BIMcollab - Solibri BCF checks become issues with a history that follows each problem across checks. Rolled out in-house for day-to-day model coordination.
The problem
The coordination team lost its BIMcollab licence, with no date for getting it back - yet that is where model issues live and where the coordinator talks to whoever has to fix them. The free alternatives either could not take Solibri’s output or could not keep a history.
What it does
- Checks become issues - a
.bcfzipexported from Solibri is uploaded and split into issues, with screenshots, viewpoints and the affected elements. - Issue history by GUID - the core of the system. On every new check the same BCF GUID is recognised as the same problem: an issue closed with 10 elements that comes back with 3 is reopened automatically, and the feed says so. An unfixed issue cannot be quietly closed - the next check reveals it.
- Preview before apply - a new check shows what will be new, found again, reopened or no longer found, and the coordinator decides what to close.
- IFC viewer - “show in model” opens the issue’s elements in the browser.
- Back to the authoring tools - BCF export so designers open issues in Revit or Allplan with the plugins they already use.
- Access by invitation - roles with different rights; projects stay private, enforced in the database with row-level security.
Status
Rolled out in-house and used for day-to-day coordination. The first working version was live within about a week; it has grown since with every round of feedback from the team - over 1,300 automated tests guard it.
Role
Sole developer - requirements with the coordination team, product design, database, front end, tests and deployment.
